Easy rename hosts
Renaming hosts is a technically complex task. It involves a core restart and often fails on large deployments due to Checkmk having to search through all logs and rename the host. Having the hostname as the primary key is not sensible. Instead choose a UUID for the host and it's name is then a easily editable field, just like alias.

Lars SörensenCheckmk should generally use everywhere an internal UUID as a key and reference. This way, everything can be renamed as needed in the blink of an eye, without the need for a complex, time-consuming and error-prone rename task.

Ralf SpennerI agree to this request and to the comment of Lars. We have to rename hundreds of hosts and this needs some weeks to be done. The internal UUID would help a lot.
